About Me
My name is Beverly Hill Blondell, founder of Bayou Native Landscape Design and Consulting, based in Houston, Texas. With a strong multi-disciplinary design background, I create landscapes that are both visually compelling and ecologically grounded in Texas native plants. Drawing on my years of research and hands-on experimentation, I combine practical design principles with sustainable gardening practices and native plant expertise to create beautiful, low-maintenance, water-wise landscapes.
I believe residential landscapes can play a meaningful role in supporting the health of our local ecosystems. Even small gardens have the potential to provide habitat for wildlife, increase biodiversity, and reconnect people with the natural environment around them.
My goal is to empower homeowners to participate in this process by making native plants and sustainable gardening approachable and practical. By working with natural systems rather than against them, landscapes can become more resilient, lower maintenance, and better adapted to our climate.
Houston’s landscape history is a guiding influence in my work. Before development reshaped the region, this area was defined by interconnected bayous, wetlands, and coastal prairie ecosystems that managed water naturally and supported remarkable biodiversity. By incorporating native plant communities inspired by these original landscapes, my designs aim to restore small pieces of that ecological function while celebrating the natural heritage of the Gulf Coast.
